On
the 23rd of August 2004, Polyester Converters Ltd. were featured
on the BBC to discuss the effects of rising oil barrel prices
on polyester film.
The
screening on BBC Breakfast included a brief introduction to
our products and services, including our newly acquired, state
of the art, C24A Slitter as well as an interview with Managing
Director, Lawrence Gardezi . Mr Gardezi spoke candidly about
increases in crude oil prices affecting PET raw material costs
which ultimately results in consumers paying more for products
containing plastic packaging films (applications
and end uses).
Polyester
Converters Ltd. (part of the PSG Group) has experienced several
price adjustments for raw materials during its 25 years of
operation. However, the current situation has resulted in businesses
such as ourselves absorbing most of these costs as competitiveness
in the industry does not allow for radical price increases.
In
addition to crude oil price increases, the unprecedented demand
for polymer from developing economies such as Asia, have further
influenced polymer costs. The situation is further compounded
because we rely on the transport industry to deliver our products
within Europe and all over the world.
